Founded in 1962, the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators is a union that represents more than 6,100 principals, assistant principals, supervisors, education administrators, and day care and assistant directors in the state of New York. The council s members work in city-funded day care centers and public and charter schools. It also serves the offices of the Department of Education. The Council of School Supervisors and Administrators represents over 9,000 retirees and their spouses, as part of the union's Retiree Chapter. The council represents members in matters concerning salaries, working conditions and educational policies. It provides professional development through the Educational Leadership Institute (ELI) and the Supervisory Support Program (SSP). The Council of School Supervisors and Administrators is a part of the New York State Federation of School Administrators (NYSFSA). The council is the Local 1 member of the American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA).
