35 Valley View Rd
Copake Falls, NY 12517
Explore the Hudson Valley’s industrial heritage at the Copake Iron Works historic site, one of the most intact examples of 19th century industrial iron making in the northeast. Established in 1845, the site is home to more remaining buildings and structures than most other iron works of its era—as well as the first and only full-scale railroad operating in all of New York State’s 180 parks. The Pomeroy Family Railroad replicates the narrow gauge railroad that circumnavigated the ironworks, transporting iron ore from the mine to the blast furnace. Passengers of all ages are invited to come aboard the train, which runs from 2-4pm on Saturdays, Sundays, and holiday Mondays through Columbus Day Weekend. The museum shares the same hours, but will be open through November 13th. The visitor center and outdoor site are open year-round during daylight hours for self-guided tours. Check out the Friends of TSP website for a free audio tour. No tickets or reservations required!
