Dr. Charles Murphy is an assistant professor of medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) and co-director of Columbia’s HHT Center for Excellence. Dr. Murphy specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) as well as the full range of pulmonary and critical illnesses. Dr. Murphy received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and underwent internal medicine residency training at Montefiore Medical Center, where he was chief resident. He then completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at CUIMC, where he was chief fellow. He is passionate about providing exceptional inpatient and outpatient care to patients with pulmonary diseases and critical illnesses.

He is passionate about medical education and serves as an Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program, co-directing the Advanced Clinician Educator Program. His academic interests include pulmonary effects of cancer-related therapies, the physical and psychological consequences of pulmonary disease and critical illness, bolstering education in serious illness communication, and optimizing the use of palliative care in the intensive care unit.
