Founded by famed industrialist Andrew Carnegie, who wanted to do real and permanent good in this world, Carnegie Corporation of New York is a charitable organization that promotes the advancement and diffusion of knowledge and understanding. The grant-making foundation engages in a variety of philanthropic causes. Each year it awards grants in excess of $80 million to programs related to education, international peace and security, international development and the strengthening of United States democracy. The organization s capital fund is worth nearly $2 billion. Carnegie Corporation of New York was founded in 1911 and has headquarters in New York.
