Founded by famed industrialist Andrew Carnegie, who wanted to do real and permanent good in this world, Carnegie Corporation of New York is a charitable organization that promotes the advancement and diffusion of knowledge and understanding. The grant-making foundation engages in a variety of philanthropic causes. Each year it awards grants in excess of $80 million to programs related to education, international peace and security, international development and the strengthening of United States democracy. The organization s capital fund is worth nearly $2 billion. Carnegie Corporation of New York was founded in 1911 and has headquarters in New York. Its recent grantees include The Aspen Institute, Brown University, University of Connecticut, The Institute for Educational Leadership, National Academy of Sciences, Fund for Peace and the American Association of People with Disabilities.
