Candace L. Johnson, MD

Dr. Matthew Crystal, MD FACC FSCAI is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Columbia University Medical Center in New York, NY. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario in 2001 before completing a Pediatrics residency, Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship and Pediatric Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Sick Kids Hospital, University of Toronto in 2008. He worked as an attending in the Pediatric Catheterization Laboratory at Texas Children's before joining the team at NYP Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital in 2012. He serves as the Associate Director of the Pediatric Catheterization Laboratory at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital New York Presbyterian and is the Director of the recently created Fetal Cardiac Intervention Team at NYP.

Erica Spiegel completed her undergraduate degree in Biology at Barnard College and her Master of Science in Genetic Counseling at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, graduating in 2006. She is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. She has worked as a reproductive genetic counselor at Columbia since the start of her career, counseling patients for a wide range of prenatal and preconception indications and participating in a variety of clinical research studies utilizing emerging reproductive genetic technologies. She has a particular interest in improving understanding of the genetic causes of fetal anomalies as well as the patient's experience, adaptation, and decision-making around fetal diagnoses.

Dr. Apfel practices at a busy, Columbia pediatric cardiology group in northern New Jersey. Together with his practice associates, Drs. Marans, Rhee, and Solowiejczyk, Dr. Apfel specializes in patients with all levels of complexity, including congenital heart disease, acquired heart disease, and fetal cardiology. He is a consultant to several area hospitals. He is a pediatric cardiology attending at Columbia, and serves there as an echocardiography attending.
