Founded in 1970 by writer, producer, and filmmaker Carl Clay, Black Spectrum Theatre in Jamaica, NY, is dedicated to providing African-American cultural expression through contemporary theater and film. With a rich history of community-based performances, the theater produces over 15 to 20 live events annually, including theatre, music, and programs aimed at nurturing the next generation of artists.
Black Spectrum Theatre serves more than 20,000 audience members each year in its state-of-the-art, 325-seat venue. Its extensive programming also includes youth and children's theater initiatives, summer camps, and after-school programs, highlighting the significance of performance arts within the African-American community.
