Dr. Dionigi is a double board certified colon and rectal surgeon with a specific interest and expertise in colon and rectal cancer, polyposis syndromes, re-operative colorectal surgery, as well as robotic and minimally invasive procedures. Dr. Dionigi obtained her medical degree with highest honors from the University of Pavia, Italy. After a surgical internship at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York, she completed her general surgery residency at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Harvard Medical School in Boston. During this time, she also did a two-year translational research fellowship related to mesenchymal stem cells at Boston Children Hospital. She then completed a colon and rectal surgery fellowship at the Salvati Fellowship Program at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson in New Jersey, followed by two years of advanced training in complex reoperative colorectal surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio. Dr. Dionigi then joined the Division of Colorectal Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center as Assistant Professor of Surgery. Since her arrival at NYP/Columbia, she has created the Women in Surgery Association (WINGS) first of its kind at Columbia with the goal of promoting women in leadership, she has served as Associate Program Director of the General Surgery Residency Program, and she is the founder and co-Chair of the collaborative translational project on Early Onset Colon and Rectal Cancer within the Columbia Research Cancer Center. Her dedication to the education of surgery residents was recognized with the 2023 Teacher Award. She is the author of several publications, received national and international awards for her research, and has been an invited speaker to national and international meetings.

She completed a General Surgery Residency at TUFTS, St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Boston followed by a research fellowship in the prestigious laboratory of Dr Kent Osborne and Dr Rachel Schiff, at the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center of the Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston, Texas. At Baylor, her research focused on the preclinical development of therapies targeting the HER2 receptor; her work was recognized by Komen/AACR. Dr. Erica M. Fallon joins the faculty at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University and Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian within the Division of Pediatric Surgery, as Assistant Professor of Surgery. She received her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University. Following graduation, she accepted an Intramural Research Training Award at the National Institutes of Health and spent two years involved in clinical pediatric obesity research. She subsequently received her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. She completed her residency training in General Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, in affiliation with Harvard Medical School. During residency, she spent three years as a research fellow in the Department of Surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital studying the effects of omega-3 fatty acids on parenteral nutrition-associated liver disease, and the prevention of postoperative abdominopelvic adhesions. She then completed a clinical fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at the Hospital for Sick Children, followed by a clinical subspecialty fellowship in Pediatric Surgical Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Fallon was named the Joshua Ryan Rappaport Research Fellow at Boston Children’s Hospital, and received independent funding from the National Institutes of Health as the recipient of a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award. She has been an invited speaker at academic forums and scientific conferences, and the recipient of numerous research awards.
