Association of Public Historians of New York
The Association of Public Historians of New York State (APHNYS) is a non-profit organization representing approximately 1,600 government-appointed historians across New York. These historians are tasked with documenting, preserving, interpreting, and sharing the rich history of their communities, ensuring that residents have access to quality educational experiences rooted in cultural heritage.
In preparation for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, APHNYS has collaborated with the Office of State History at the New York State Museum to create the New York State 250th Commemoration Field Guide. This guide offers resources and suggested themes to assist local and regional planners in organizing commemorative events throughout the state.
