What I find most rewarding in my work is advocating for patients’ personal birth choices, no matter how unconventional they may seem. I also enjoy helping birthing people to navigate complex medical issues impacting pregnancy, and educating them regarding prenatal ultrasound findings and their significance. I am certified as an obstetrician both in the United States and the United Kingdom, and I subspecialize in Maternal and Fetal Medicine. I am also a board-certified medical acupuncturist and a physician-scientist interested in the evidence-based integration of acupuncture and related techniques within conventional maternity care. Through additional fellowship training in integrative health, I have developed a broader interest in complementary approaches to mitigating disease and enhancing wellbeing during pregnancy. After graduating from medical school in the UK, I spent two decades in postgraduate training including Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Medical Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine. I began my training by spending 7 years in the UK National Health Service and 5 years in university-based clinical and research fellowships, during which I completed an MSc in Western Medical Acupuncture, a PhD in Fetal Medicine, and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists’ “advanced training skills modules” in Maternal Medicine and Advanced Labour Ward Practice. After emigrating to the US, I retrained in my chosen specialty/subspecialty at NYU Tisch/Bellevue Hospitals and UVM Medical Center. Nowadays my clinical practice reflects both my US and UK training, and includes both conventional and integrative approaches to care. I take a holistic approach to all patient interactions and support patient autonomy wholeheartedly.
