Allen Steinheim Museum
The Allen Steinheim Museum, located on the campus of Alfred University in Allegany County, New York, is a historic building that once housed a unique collection of mineral, geological, natural, and man-made curiosities. Built between 1876 and 1880 by Professor Jonathan Allen, the museum showcased rare shells, mounted birds and animals, Indian artifacts, pioneer agricultural implements, and fine ceramic arts.
After a period of disuse, the museum underwent a renovation in 1995 and now serves as the Robert R. McComsey Career Development Center. The building, known as the Steinheim, features a crenellated stone structure made from over 8,000 rock specimens and 700 samples of local and foreign wood, preserving its historical significance and architectural charm.
