The Association for the Help of Retarded Children is one of the largest consumer-based nonprofit organizations. It serves more than 11,000 individuals with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. The association provides a range of general and educational advocacy services. It additionally offers full-day educational services to preschoolers who are diagnosed with autism. The Association for the Help of Retarded Children also organizes summer camps and year-round recreational activities. It has a staff of qualified professionals who conduct psychological, psychiatric, medical, nursing, nutrition, podiatry, and occupational, speech and physical therapy evaluations. In addition, the association provides assistance with guardianship issues and future care planning.
