Dr. Chen is a full-time Assistant Professor of Dental Medicine at the Columbia University Medical Center in the Section of Growth and Development, Division of Orthodontics, at Columbia University's College of Dental Medicine. She is also the Program Director of the postgraduate orthodontics program.Dr. Chen received her dental degree in Bejing, China, at Peking University and completed a PhD Program in Oral Biology and her specialty training in Orthodontics at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. She received University Tenure and is currently a Professor of Dental Medicine and the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Development at the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine.Her research has primarily focused on the field of periodontal infections and their link with diabetes mellitus and atherosclerosis, and has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, as well as industry and foundations. She is the recipient of prestigious awards, including the Antony A. Rizzo Young Investigator Award from the International Association for Dental Research and the World Periodontal Research Award from the Sunstar Foundation for Oral Health Promotion. Dr. Lalla is the immediate past president of the Periodontal Research Group of the International Association for Dental Research.
