Public Safety Department

The New Mexico Department of Public safety works to provide law enforcement services, training, disaster and emergency response, and technical communication and forensic support to the public and other government agencies. It operates the special investigation, motor transportation, emergency management operations, communications, record and information technology divisions. The department s special operations division protects the safety and welfare of citizens through the investigation of criminal and administrative law violations. The New Mexico Department of Public safety also has a law enforcement academy that establishes rules, policies, qualifications and standards for the employment, certification, and training of law enforcement and communication officers. It offers information regarding crime prevention fingerprinting, concealed weapons, missing persons and information technology. The department additionally issues the copies of accident reports and maintains a sex offender registry. The New Mexico Department of Public safety is headquartered in Santa Fe, N.M., and operates an office in Albuquerque, N.M.
