The Bureau of Trust Funds Administration, part of the U.S. Department of the Interior, is dedicated to managing the financial assets of American Indians held in trust. With over $9 billion under active management, the bureau disburses more than $1 billion annually on behalf of tribes and individuals.
In a reorganization effective October 1, 2020, the bureau assumed fiduciary functions previously managed by the Office of the Special Trustee for American Indians. It provides vital services such as Individual Indian Money (IIM) account management, payment schedules for oil and gas revenues, and financial guidance for beneficiaries.
