Office Archaeological Studies
The New Mexico Office of Archaeological Studies (OAS) is a division of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs, dedicated to conducting archaeological research projects throughout New Mexico since 1952. With a team of 13 archaeologists and support staff, OAS focuses on identifying, interpreting, and sharing information regarding prehistoric and historic sites, while also providing services to state agencies and private organizations involved in development projects.
OAS specializes in a range of archaeological services, including field training programs, artifact analysis, and nondestructive radiocarbon sampling, along with educational outreach initiatives. The office operates five specialized laboratories and has completed over 800 archaeological projects, contributing significantly to the understanding of New Mexico's rich cultural heritage.
