The Upper Hondo Soil Water Conservation District, established in 1941, is a governmental subdivision of the State of New Mexico. Covering over 1 million acres primarily in Lincoln County, with some in Chavez County, they are dedicated to educating the public on soil and water conservation practices, as well as noxious weed eradication.
Through their programs, the Upper Hondo SWCD offers farmers, ranchers, and small tract urban landowners the opportunity to participate in cost-share plans for various conservation initiatives, including brush control, erosion control, pipelines, dirt tanks, cross fencing, and rainwater harvesting.
