El Potrero Trading Post, also known as The Vigil Store, is a long-standing family-owned business nestled in the picturesque valley of Chimayo, New Mexico, adjacent to the renowned El Santuario de Chimayo. With a rich history dating back to 1921, the store offers a diverse range of religious articles, including retablos saints, carved bultos saints, tin crosses, and mirrors, as well as traditional art crafted by esteemed Spanish Market artists.
Specializing in the highest quality of green and red chile, El Potrero also boasts an extensive selection of Zuni fetishes and various containers for the sacred earth from El Santuario. Upholding the Vigil tradition of exceptional customer service and hard work, the store is currently owned by Elma Bal, daughter of the original founder, and managed by her children, Raymond Bal and Vikki Tejada, with the assistance of Priscilla Martinez and her children during the summer months and Easter week.
