Willow Grove Cemetery
Willow Grove Cemetery, located in downtown New Brunswick, New Jersey, is a five-acre site composed of three smaller cemeteries: Willow Grove Cemetery, Cheesman or Central Cemetery, and Presbyterian Cemetery. Established between 1837 and 1851, this historic site is the final resting place for notable figures, including former mayors, a U.S. senator, and influential individuals from the mid-19th to early 20th centuries.
Among its distinguished burials are the first Japanese exchange student to the United States and New Brunswick's Unknown Soldier. The cemetery has benefited from a grant by the New Jersey Historical Commission, which supported the indexing of gravemarkers and the development of related resources.
