Ventnor Fishing Pier
Ventnor Pier, located in Ventnor City, NJ, has a rich history dating back to 1861 when the Ventnor Pier Harbour Co. was formed. Over the years, the pier underwent several reconstructions and additions, including a 478-foot pier completed in 1873, a replacement pier in 1887, and the New Royal Victoria Pier designed by Basil Phelps in 1955. Unfortunately, due to storms, war, and fire, all traces of the former Ventnor piers have been lost, with the final pier being demolished in 1992-1993.
Ventnor Pier's ownership was transferred to Ventnor Town Trust in 1988, and despite efforts to generate funds for repairs, the pier's deteriorating condition led to its eventual demolition. Today, the National Piers Society commemorates the history and significance of Ventnor Pier, highlighting its role as a beloved seaside attraction for over a century.
