Established in 1910, American Aluminum Company (AMALCO) specializes in contract metal fabrication and manufacture of heat-treating metals. The firm s metal forming processes include deep draw and hydroforming. Its secondary operations are computer numerical control (CNC) machining, piercing, blanking, forming, heat treating, heliarc welding, painting, etc. The company serves a wide range of industries, including the defense, aerospace, security, medical, communications, HVAC systems (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), industrial lighting and electronics markets among others. Founded in 1931, Springfield Metal Products has three generations of history and experience. Paul "Pop" Sommer started Springfield Welding Shop by sharpening knives, lawnmower blades, and saw blades. He also did welding repairs on wagons, bicycles, and anything else made of metal. Starting in his two car garage, Paul made a wagon from the axle of a car, which he pulled behind his bicycle to surrounding towns. The old wagon had no tires, but rode faithfully behind Paul on it's rims as he made his daily deliveries. In 1946, Springfield Welding Shop became Springfield Welding Company, Inc Walter E. Sommer, Paul's son, expanded the business into specialized equipment used in the air and water treatment industries. Bucket Elevators, conveyors systems, electrical and then computer enclosures were added to Paul's line of work. Right through the 1980's Walter, with his son Tim, continued to expand the capabilities of Springfield Welding with new manufacturing equipment and processes. It was Tim, who in 1984, believed the name Springfield Welding no longer reflected the abilities of the company. Thus, the company name was changed to Springfield Metal Products Company Inc Today, Walter's son John continues to improve SMP. Name your metal, your application, your specification...SMP will work closely with you from prototypes to medium run productions. And, oh yes, we still weld bicycles just like Pop Sommer did.

It is certified by Underwriters Laboratories, as well as provides customer care, inspection, testing and analysis services. The company maintains a staff of machine operators, machinists, welders, paint specialists and metal technicians. It also offers a range of punching, forming, shearing, laser cutting, painting and assembly services. The company operates a machining center, as well as a welding department that provides grinding and polishing services for aluminum and cold-rolled and stainless steel. In addition, Moreng Metal Products maintains overhead cranes, air compressors, and narrow-aisle-reach and propane and electric lift trucks .
