Herman Schlenger founded Strauss Discount Auto as R & S Auto in 1919. R & S Auto opened several stores in New Jersey in the 1920s, 30s and 40s. In 1982, the company merged with Strauss stores from New York City. R & S Strauss acquired the Penn Jersey auto stores at Philadelphia in 1986. The company's name changed to Strauss Discount Auto in 1995. Company products include batteries, filters and parts for brakes, cooling systems, engines, transmissions, drive trains, exhaust systems and suspensions. The company has more than 100 stores throughout New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania.
