Founded in 1881, Plainfield Public Library provides resources for the informational, educational and recreational needs of residents in the community . The library houses over 200,000 volumes and employs a staff of more than 40 employees. In addition to having a large book and video collection, the library serves as a meeting place, as well as distribution point for information about community events and services. Plainfield Public Library has a computer learning center for children. The library also offers homebound book delivery and services to small businesses. Its basic services are funded by the city of Plainfield , N.J. The library also receives grants from private and government agencies to upgrade and enhance its services.
