Pennsauken Police Department

Pennsauken borders Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The two municipalities are connected across the Delaware River by the Betsy Ross Bridge which is owned and operated by the Delaware River Port Authority. In New Jersey, Pennsauken borders Camden, Collingswood, Merchantville, Cherry Hill, Palmyra, and Maple Shade. Pennsauken was originally a part of the much larger Delaware Township in the mid 1800's, eventually becoming Stockton Township in the latter 1800's finally becoming Pennsauken Township in 1892. Pennsauken largely rural farms in it's early years has grown and prospered. Growning from it's early beginnings the Township of Pennsauken has gone through various changes from being the location of Central Airport (modern day Supremo Super Market and Airport Circle Business District) to a bustling urban area. The Police Department original building was a converted house that originally served as the Municipal Building for Pennsauken, and shared that space with the municipal court. In 1978 ground was broke at the corner of Bethel Avenue and Noute Route 130 on construction of a 38, 000 square foot multi-story complex that would become Pennsauken Township Police Headquarters. The police department's facilty has a four lane indoor range, eight cells for prisoners various office space for administrative and operational needs, is home of the 9-1-1 Communication Center, and a K-9 Kennel. The Pennsauken Police Department responds to an average of 70, 000 calls for service each year. Currently operates a sub station facility located at 4700 Westfield Avenue, has 87 uniformed officers and maintains a fleet of 45 vehicles. The Township of Pennsauken's current Department of Public Safety consist of three separate Bureau's. The Bureau of Police, Bureau of Fire Prevention and the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.
