Founded in 1983, Food Bank For New York City is an independent, nonprofit organization that provides after-school and emergency food programs. It conducts food stamp prescreening. The organization operates a soup kitchen and food pantry. It is a certified member of Feeding America and the Food Bank Association of New York State. Food Bank For New York City has partnerships with Abraham Natural Foods, Baldor Specialty Foods, Beyer Lightning, Blue Ribbon Fish, and Abuelitas & Empanadas. It operates a subsidiary called FoodChange. The organization s warehouse is spread over an area of more than 35,000 square feet. Food Bank For New York City is a recipient of several awards for its excellence and efficiency in the successful management of emergency food programs from Charity Navigator. The organization also publishes a variety of informative materials for agencies, legislators, media, corporations and hunger relief organizations.

Founded in 1933 at the suggestion of Albert Einstein, the International Rescue Committee provides relief, rehabilitation, protection, post-conflict development and resettlement services to people in countries that have been affected by violent conflict and oppression. The organization delivers lifesaving aid in emergencies, rebuilds communities, cares for war-traumatized children, rehabilitates health care and water sanitation systems, reunites separated families, establishes schools and trains teachers. Each year it assists more than 15 million individuals in more than 25 countries. Of each dollar the International Rescue Committee spends, 90 cents are committed to programs and services that directly benefit the people it helps.
