The Meadowlands Environment Center (MEC) was established to enhance awareness and appreciation of the Meadowlands District's unique urban ecosystem through educational initiatives. Since 2003, it has partnered with Ramapo College of New Jersey to develop environmental education programs for schools and the public, encouraging the use of the natural environment as an outdoor classroom.
Offering hands-on, innovative environmental science programs for students from grades K-12, the MEC attracts over 20,000 participants annually. Programs encompass various scientific disciplines, aligning with New Jersey's Core Curriculum Content Standards, and utilize the Center's sustainable features as a teaching tool to promote environmental stewardship.
