Daniel DeRose Jr., who decided to manufacture soup bases after spending years peddling apple cider vinegar to area restaurants, founded Major Products Company in 1951. With the help of his father, they built a small mixer and began mixing soup bases in the garage of their Newark, N.J., dwelling. Word spread about Major's soup bases and before long the company upgraded to larger equipment and moved into a much larger warehouse in the DeRose s neighborhood.
