Lakewood Tenants Organization
The Lakewood Tenants Organization (LTO) is a non-profit organization established in 1972 dedicated to organizing, representing, and advocating for the diverse renter population in Lakewood, New Jersey. As the largest provider of private-sector affordable housing in Ocean County, LTO operates the Lakewood Tenant Rental Assistance Program (LTRAP), which has grown from 80 slots in 1977 to assist over 1,200 low-income households, primarily comprising the elderly, handicapped, and children.
LTRAP is a three-way partnership funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and sponsored by the Township of Lakewood, enabling the provision of rent subsidies to eligible families. The organization plays a crucial role in addressing local housing challenges by facilitating access to affordable housing solutions through programs such as the Section 8 Housing Assistance Program.
