Joseph Thornton is a physician assistant in Summit Health's Urgent Care Center. His areas of expertise include primary care, including Men's Health issues, emergency medicine, preventive health care services and travel medicine.Previously, he worked at numerous institutions, including University Health Services, Princeton University, Fayrouz Pediatrics in Clifton, NJ, Newark Liberty International Airport Medical Offices, Seton Hall University/UMDNJ Master of Science in Physician Assistant Program, Bayley Seton Hospital, Staten Island, NY and U.S. Public Health Service Hospital, Staten Island, NY. He is a member of the International Society of Travel Medicine, the New Jersey State Society of Physician Assistants (NJSSPA), and the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA).He also has worked with the Resource Center for Women and Their Families, an organization that provides aid for domestic violence survivors in Somerset County. When he is not working with patients, Mr. Thornton enjoys spending time with family and friends as well as traveling and reading.

He is Past President of the American Society of Hand Therapists New Jersey State Chapter, Past Chairperson of the New Jersey Occupational Therapy Association Hand Therapy Special Interest Group, and an active member of the American Society of Hand Therapists.Mr. Skolnik believes that humor, respect, optimism, and commitment are essential to his approach with patients. He notes, "I use these qualities to relate to and partner with my patients in helping them achieve their health goals. It's a privilege to work with my patients and help them realize meaningful outcomes that help improve their lives."When he is not working with his patients, Mr. Skolnik enjoys cycling, snowboarding, fly fishing, and spending time with his 2 children.
