We offer a variety of classes and workshops open to makers of all skill levels. Sessions are guided by craftspeople in various trades, including furniture makers, woodworkers, contractors, and do-it-yourself enthusiasts. Group projects are an exciting way to familiarize yourself with different tools and learn effective techniques."I couldn't remember the last time I had satisfied what I now realize to be a primal need to make something tangible. As a young adult, I was so out of touch with my hands that I would rely on my husband to simply hang a picture frame. After years of watching channels like HGTV and DIY Network, I decided to overcome my fear of hand tools and make something awesome.A wooden side table seemed simple enough, but I immediately ran into four major obstacles: no work or storage space, unreliable resources, not enough time to pick up supplies, and little disposable income to buy tools for one time use. With time, I eventually turned a 10' board of cherry into a round side table with angled legs. Instantaneously, my hands and heart were opened to a world that had once seemed inaccessible to women.I felt empowered and capable, but I also realized that there is truly more to an object than meets the eye, everything has a maker and a story and is purposely made. That was a beautiful moment in my life, and I think that all people should have that experience, regardless of their gender, background, or skill level. As a result, The DIY Joint was launched in 2016. The mission of our team is to empower men and women with the skills, space, and tools to make more. Our goal is to create a fun, welcoming, and safe environment for everyone. I hope that our journey encourages and motivates the maker in you. It's not about what you make, it's about how it makes you feel."-Priscilla Van Houten, Founder & Owner
