In 1975, Chateau of Spain was born by a group of local investors looking to build on the growing Spanish and Portuguese presence in the city. In 1989, Bill Oliveira and Joe Conceicao purchased the restaurant, bringing their past restaurant experience into creating a mainstay of Spanish and Portuguese cuisine in downtown Newark.
