Carissa Meyer, MD is a member of Summit Healths Orthopedics and Sports Medicine team. Dr. Meyer is a board certified, fellowship trained surgeon who specializes in operative and nonoperative treatment of acute and chronic conditions of the hand and upper extremities in patients of all ages. In addition to fracture and other trauma, Dr. Meyer treats overuse injuries and tendonitis, including trigger finger, nerve compression such as carpal tunnel, arthritis, TFCC (triangular fibrocartilage complex) injuries, tennis and golf elbow, Dupuytren's contracture as well as all pediatric conditions, including congenital hand differences. Dr. Meyer is also extremely passionate about educating on carpal tunnel syndrome and dispelling some common misconceptions around the condition and its treatment. Dr. Meyer's care approach is to integrate each patient's unique experience with her expertise and evidence-based medicine to develop an effective treatment plan that addresses their individual needs. "Providing the best, most effective care I can, while also ensuring my patient feels comfortable with the proposed plan, is of utmost importance to me," Dr. Meyer says.Dr. Meyer is an avid runner and has run several marathons. Ultrasound is also useful for performing minimally invasive office procedures such as trigger finger and other compartment releases, resulting in timely, safe, and cost-effective treatment of these common conditions.Dr. Giuffrida says, It's so important to introduce young girls to careers in science and technology, fields where they are underrepresented and can make a huge impact. She adds, Having often been the only woman in my engineering classes and orthopedic surgery training, I recognize the need to encourage and mentor girls who may be considering these fields. Dr. Giuffrida tries her best to mentor young women in their pursuit of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) careers. She gives talks at local elementary and high schools about STEM careers and supports the establishment of STEM teaching facilities and resources in these schools.Dr. Giuffrida is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the New Jersey Orthopaedic Society, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the New York Hand Society, and the Medical Society of New Jersey. She has also been a member of the prestigious AOA Honor Medical Society since her early medical education.When shes not treating patients, Dr. Giuffrida enjoys spending time with her family, skiing, biking, hiking, and swimming.
