Established in 1981 in North Sandwich, New Hampshire, Wayside Farm is a small area farm specializing in producing ornamental plants for home gardeners and landscapers. As an extension of their work, Great Northern Berries was founded in 2013, focusing on cultivating unique and high-quality berry bushes suitable for northern gardeners. After 42 years of dedicated farming, Wayside Farm and Great Northern Berries have bid farewell to retail customers as of August 31, 2023.
Although the farm is no longer open to retail customers, the legacy of Wayside Farm and Great Northern Berries lives on through the continued harvest and sale of Honeyberries, High Bush Blueberries, and Raspberries to local wineries, distilleries, and ice cream producers. Annually, a Frozen Berry Sale offers Maine Wild Blueberries, Honeyberries, and Raspberries for purchase, providing a taste of the farm's offerings to loyal customers. Ben and Wendy Shambaugh, the minds behind the operation, express their gratitude to the community for years of support and patronage.
