The Loon Preservation Committee (LPC) in Moultonborough, NH, has been dedicated to restoring and maintaining a healthy population of loons throughout New Hampshire since 1975. Through monitoring, research, management, and outreach efforts, LPC works to preserve loons and their habitats, while promoting a greater understanding of these iconic birds and the natural world.
With a mission to monitor the health and productivity of loon populations as indicators of environmental quality, LPC educates the public about loons, their behavior, and the threats they face, including lead poisoning. The organization's work includes initiatives such as the Squam Lake Loon Initiative, loon nest rafts, and rescues, all aimed at ensuring the continued well-being of loons in the region.
