Established in 1974, the State Historic Preservation Office is responsible for the preservation and conservation of historical and archeological heritage of the state of New Hampshire. It coordinates the Certified Local Government, New Hampshire Historical Markers, Preservation Easement and Project Archaeology programs. The office additionally provides the State Conservation and Rescue Archaeology Program (SCRAP), which is a public participation plan for archaeological research, management and education. It offers historic preservation reviewing, surveying, database management, regulatory compliance, and architectural and cultural resources identification services. The office is supported by private donations and state and federal funds. The State Historic Preservation Office is a part of the Division of Historical Resources.
