The Douglas A. Philbrook Red Barn Museum, located just outside the Base Lodge of the Mt. Washington Auto Road, showcases a rich collection of memorabilia and vehicles that highlight the history of this iconic tourist attraction. Opened in 1861, the museum is the last surviving barn from the staging business that supported the Carriage Road, offering visitors a glimpse into the past of New England's first man-made tourist destination.
In addition to its historical displays, the museum features artifacts from the Auto Road's history, including vehicles that once made the eight-mile journey to the summit of New England. The Red Barn Museum serves as a unique cultural landmark, providing an engaging experience for those interested in the heritage of the region.
