While no spinal treatment can give a person a "brand new spine", we use every means available to provide the best possible outcome. As a pediatric surgeon, I care for children in a family-centered, respectful, and age-appropriate environment. I emphasize child-centered communication. The child's well-being is always at the center of my care. I ensure that my patients and their parents or guardians understand and agree with every step of the process and care plan. I enjoy working collaboratively with children, their families, and their care team. As a team, we care for children of all ages with many types of surgical problems. We've treated premature children who weighed less than a pound and teenagers who were taller than the surgeons. I also have a special interest in surgical oncology and trauma, which both involve collaborating with many different team members. Ultimately, my goal is a smiling child with a happy family. It is an honor to take care of children. Receiving parents' trust to operate on their child is a significant responsibility and gift.

I appreciate so many aspects of cancer care and women's health. My patients consistently say they feel like they are in competent and skilled hands, and that I put them at ease. The patient's goals drive a successful outcome, within the boundaries of what we can do. If a cure is not possible, I try to help my patient identify what goals they may have and balance that with what is possible. As a gynecological oncologist, I research and apply for grants to find the best solutions for my patients. My patients and their families offer perspective to my life every day. I see families rally around their mothers and wives in a way that is touching and inspiring.
