I like to keep things simple for patients. I try to respond to what they are expecting and what they want. Every patient has a different goal in mind, and I want to know what their most important thing is, not what is important to me. I hear from patients that I'm pretty good at explaining things to them, so that they can understand and everything makes sense to them. They say that I'm relatable and they are comfortable with me. I always wanted to be in medicine because I liked the idea of helping people. Nursing was really hands-on for me and I felt like I could make a difference. I've always had a caring personality. Family medicine is a good fit for me because I can do a lot of different things with it. I enjoy being able to take care of entire families. I know the kids, I know the parents, I know the grandparents. I might have my own agenda for a patient, but it's not about what I want. When patients feel like the relationship has been collaborative and we've gotten somewhere, that’s a success. I love being able to make a difference. It’s rewarding to interact with patients, often in some of their most vulnerable moments. There’s something so special about being allowed to take care of someone.

My approach with patients and their families is to be welcoming and attentive, so that I can identify their healthcare needs. I try my best to listen carefully, as this is the best way for me to understand and address a patient’s concerns and questions. I decided to go to medical school early in my college years, because I found it to be a perfect blend of service to others and lifelong learning. Pediatric medicine was most interesting, since it was upbeat and dynamic working with children and adolescents as they develop and grow. The most rewarding part of my job is the connection and trust that is developed with patients. Being in primary care pediatrics, I follow patients from birth through their college years. I’ve been here long enough that I'm getting former patients coming back with their own children. Knowing that it was their own parents that chose me as their pediatrician, it’s a huge compliment that they now chose me to be their child’s doctor. They must have valued and trusted the care they received.

I take a holistic approach to care and meet my patients where they are at the moment. I entered Pulmonology because I want to help people breathe better and experience a higher quality of life through optimal health. Success for me is keeping patients with chronic respiratory conditions out of the hospital. I enjoy working with individuals, helping them feel better and making a meaningful difference in their lives.
