Humboldt Conservation Camp
Humboldt Conservation Camp, located in Winnemucca, Nevada, is a fire camp operated by the Nevada Division of Forestry. Established in 1986, the camp utilizes 22 trailers from the Alaskan pipeline project and can accommodate up to 152 minimum-custody inmates. In addition to firefighting, the camp offers vocational training, educational opportunities, and treatment services for inmates, as well as project work in the local community.
With a dedicated staff of 14 employees, including correctional officers and caseworkers, Humboldt Conservation Camp plays a vital role in fire suppression efforts in Humboldt County. When not engaged in firefighting, the camp's crews contribute to various community projects, such as highway clean-up and other initiatives in collaboration with the Department of Transportation. The camp also provides opportunities for inmates to pursue their GED or high school diploma, furthering their education and rehabilitation.
