Established in 1959, the Desert Research Institute is a nonprofit research facility administered by the Nevada System of Higher Education. It undertakes basic and applied research in the areas of atmospheric, ecological and hydrologic sciences. The institute also offers facilities for advanced visualization, computer-aided modeling and environmental management. It has a number of libraries that provide a wide collection of books, magazines, journals, encyclopedias, research data and online referrals. Its libraries also offer research database on environmental and ecological sustainability. In addition to that, the institute undertakes community outreach programs and organizes seminars on environment related issues. Desert Research Institute is located in Las Vegas.
