The Comstock Historic District Commission, established in 1969 under Nevada Revised Statutes Chapter 384, is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of historic resources within the Virginia City National Landmark District, known as the Comstock Historic District. The Commission issues Certificates of Appropriateness for projects affecting the exteriors of buildings, new constructions, and other significant alterations within the district.

In addition to its regulatory role, the Commission actively encourages archaeological investigations, the rehabilitation of historic resources, and the safeguarding of the Comstock's rich cultural heritage. Through its initiatives, the Commission aims to maintain the historical integrity and character of this iconic region in Nevada.
