The Jumbo Grade Trailhead serves as a day-use staging area for visitors embarking on the rugged 8-mile Jumbo Grade Trail, which connects the Washoe Lake area to the historic town of Virginia City, Nevada. This trail, suitable for off-highway vehicles, horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking, offers a scenic route steeped in history, once vital for transporting materials during the Comstock Lode mining boom.
Established by local Native peoples and later developed into a wagon road in the 1860s, the Jumbo Grade Trail has a rich heritage linked to the mining industry. Today, it features a winding path through mountainous terrain, past the remnants of the Jumbo Mining Camp, providing a glimpse into the area's storied past while catering to outdoor enthusiasts.
