The National Safety Council, Greater Omaha Chapter, founded in 1924, is a private, nonprofit, community-based organization and an accredited chapter of the National Safety Council. The council promotes safety and health by providing programs, resource services and education to prevent both the personal and economic loss associated with injuries, accidents and health hazards. The safety council targets the causes by providing programs in occupational safety and health, community safety, traffic safety, behind the wheel driver education and personal accountability. It also provides programs for the schools, businesses and courts. The council has an accountant on staff and its accounting system includes standard and accepted policies and procedures, accrual system and an internal purchasing control system.
