Military and Naval Science
The John J. Pershing Military and Naval Science Building, located on the City Campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, was constructed in 1946 to serve as a memorial to General John J. Pershing. Originally conceived in the early 1930s, the building replaced the inadequate Nebraska Hall and was designed by architect Davis Wilson, with modern updates reflecting contemporary architectural trends.
Throughout its history, the building has served as a center for military training and was notably occupied by student protesters during the Vietnam War era in 1970. In 2006, it was rededicated to honor its namesake, fulfilling the original vision of Chancellor Burnett from decades earlier.
