The District winners will present their speeches to the Westside Kiwanis Club on Wednesday, April 13th. The College Board recently honored Westside Community Schools with a place on its AP Achievement List. The District is one of just 388 school districts nationwide selected for this honor. Westside received the recognition for opening advanced placement (AP) classes to a significantly broader pool of students, while maintaining or improving the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher. From 2008-2010, Westside High School increased the number of students participating in AP classes from 222 to 288, while improving the percentage of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher, the score typically needed to earn college credit. That percentage of students earning college credit rose to 63 percent in 2010, up from 56 percent in 2008. The College Board's Advanced Placement Program enables students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school. Founded in 1900, the College Board is a not-for-profit organization that connects students to college success and opportunity. Westside Community Schools has announced a partnership between the District and the Westside Foundation to place an early childhood program at the site of the former Underwood Hills Elementary School.
