The company has received more than 40 patents for its technology. Engineers and scientists involved in the advancement of ellipsometry make up more than half of J.A. Woollam s staff. Each system the company sells is assembled by hand and uses custom-machined aluminum and optics and electronics. Dr. John A. Woollam founded J.A. Woollam in 1987.
