Traditional Oriental Medicine

Tanja Brekke, M.S., L.Ac, founded Traditional Oriental Medicine to offer the benefits of the ancient art and science of acupuncture and Oriental medicine to the Bozeman area. Her goal is to consistently provide the highest quality acupuncture, massage and herbal formulas to enhance the lives of her patients. Tanja looks at each patient as an individual and no two patients are given the same treatment plan. She spends about one hour with each new patient getting a detailed history of health, diet, activities, life style, medications and any other pertinent information. Each subsequent visit she spends from 15 to 30 minutes gathering any new information. The acupuncture treatment lasts about 10 to 20 minutes on average. Chinese herbs are often prescribed along with the acupuncture treatment. She also does Oriental Massage when it is appropriate for a patient. She specializes in treating people with chronic pain, autoimmune disorders, and emotional difficulties. As a former gymnast, martial arts instructor and skier, she has an interest and background in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of sports-related injuries and can assist athletes in achieving and maintaining peak levels of performance. She believes that Oriental Medicine has many benefits for modern health care and often works for patients who have been disappointed by Western healthcare practices, but she also believes that Western Medicine may be more appropriate for many diseases and illnesses. Either modality or a combination of both modalities may be the best approach for an individual patient. She will always refer a patient to a western medical specialist when appropriate to get the most comprehensive care and the best possible outcome for the patient.
