The Station @ Smithton

History

The idea of the store began about 20 years ago when Lou Atkinson, one of four current owners of the Station, operated another business called Hazel Hill Mercantile in northwest Johnson County Missouri. Lou and a friend and artist colleague created Hazel Hill as an artist co-op featuring weavers, jewelry makers, potters, and furniture makers. When Hazel Hill had to close, Lou looked for a new spot to open his own shop. His sister in law had a garage for rent in Smithton. As soon as he and his wife walked in the garage, they knew it was the right place and the right time. So seven years ago, Lou and his family spent every weekend and time off from school to clean, paint, and redesign the interior. Within a year, it was ready for occupancy. Since that time, the store has grown and added more and more vendors, keeping true to its pledge to provide quality antiques and merchandise.

Specialties

Only open the second weekend of each month. The Station's 2400 square feet of antiques, vintage finds, and market items is a great get-away for this weekend.
