About KKFI Started in 1988, KKFI has been the Kansas City area's independent, noncommercial community radio station for more than two decades now. The KKFI studios have been in 4 different locations in that time, all in the Westport area. We are fortunate to have a license to operate a 100, 000-watt transmitter, the most powerful allowed by FCC regulations. We seek to stimulate, educate and entertain our audience, to reflect the diversity of the local and world community, and to provide a channel for individuals and groups, issues and music that have been overlooked, suppressed or under-represented by other media.

Always been my favorite radio station in Kansas City! Lots of great blues and rock music, and some good edgy news reporting such as "Democracy Now." I do miss "Chicken Man" on Friday nights, though!
