Institute For Human Development
The UMKC Institute for Human Development (IHD) is a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, dedicated to promoting self-determined lives for individuals with disabilities. As an institute within an urban research university, IHD strives to enhance access to opportunities and resources for underserved populations.
With a focus on building partnerships for effective social change, IHD collaborates with national, state, and local partners to develop and implement programs in various areas, including health and wellness promotion, early childhood and youth, individual advocacy and family supports, adult community living, and aging and developmental disabilities. Through interdisciplinary training, program development, and research evaluation, IHD aims to create a world where all individuals can live, work, and play in their chosen communities throughout their lives.
