Instead of opting for a hotel, Paul and I chose Hawthorn Bed and Breakfast. Located in Independence, it made for a bit more driving while we were there, but it was such an upgrade in experience....

The good points: very clean, well decorated of the period, well priced, quiet, nice porch, nice sun room, bedrooms large with private baths, accommodating to food restrictions and eggs and yogurt...

Night one of three. Beautiful 1900 mansion. The owners are top notch. Two more. Ight a but this will be on my short list of places to stay when I am in the Kansas City area

Jim is an excellent caretaker! So kind and accommodating. The room and entire house was lovely and quiet. A great place to stay after a long drive. The breakfast was home cooked, fresh, and amazing!

Stayed one night here with my Mom and had a wonderful experience! The owners were very nice and gracious hosts. The best part about the stay was the breakfast in the morning. Wow! Fresh baked...
